About us

Our Mission

When it comes to writing, let's face it: talent is only half the equation. The rest is grit and motivation, the choice to put pen to paper day after day.

But that choice isn't easy. For many writers, it's a daily struggle. We're talking about those early mornings when the last thing you want to do is work on your book, or those late nights when you're staring at your manuscript and wondering, What if this isn't actually good? Motivation is tricky, and there are countless reasons people stop creating: self-doubt, social media comparison, or just plain life getting in the way.

That's where Jolt comes in. We believe staying motivated is all about finding the right community. Our mission is to enable everyone in the world to create authentically: to write and finish that book you've always wanted to write, or that short story, that song, that blog post.

Our mission with Jolt is to empower you to create by creating together, one word at a time.

Our Values

  • We believe every writer has a natural voice. The more human a piece of writing is, the better. We do not and will not ever use generative AI to “enhance” your writing.
  • We believe in transparency and privacy. We will never sell your personal data, and we guarantee that your writing will never be used for AI training.
  • We believe in the power of technology to help writers and artists in meaningful ways. As we explore new tools that could help writers and give insights into their unique process, we plan to offset our environmental impact with green energy donations.
  • We believe copyright laws should apply to tech companies. Full stop. To that end, we actively support and plan to contribute to the Authors Guild in their efforts to protect copyright in the AI era.
  • We believe writers thrive when they hit their flow state, that singular feeling when the words come out most naturally.
  • We believe sometimes the best writing advice is to just get some words down on the page. Let your writing be messy. Perfect is the enemy of good, and if there's one thing we know, it's that you can't edit a blank page.
  • We believe the future of creativity is democratized. Writing is hard, but it doesn't always have to be. We want stories from everyone–not just people who have copious amounts of free time, or can afford writing classes, or are naturally motivated or organized or otherwise neurotypical. We want more voices in the world—more stories—and we plan to do everything we can to increase that access.
